ELECTION IN ONE ROUND TO COST RP4 TRILLION
Banjarmasin, Indonesia, June 30 (ANTARA) - If held in one round only, the presidential election will cost more than Rp4 trillion in funds, General Election Commission (KPU) chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary said here on Tuesday.
"Rp4 trillion is the amount spent by the KPU aside from the funds spent by the campaign team of each presidential and vice presidential candidate," Hafiz Anshary said in a dialog with members of the South Kalimantan KPU, Election Monitoring Committee (Panwaslu), and local administration officials here.
Hafiz Anshary arrived here on Tuesday to accompany Home Affairs Minister Mardiyanto to inspect preparations for the July 8 election in the province.
Besides the KPU chairman, the home affairs minister was also accompanied by Bawaslu chairman Nur Hidayat Fardini and Home Affairs Ministry official Ahmad Tanribali Lamo.
The KPU chairman said that because a big amount of funds was needed for only one round of the presidential election, the KPU members across the country should work hard to make the election a success.
In his visit to Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, on Monday, the KPU chairman said the Commission at provincial and district levels would pay close attention to the problem of permanent voters' lists (DPTs).
Hafiz Anshari said the DPT issue came under the public spotlight in the past legislative elections and therefore the Commission would pay close attention to it in the upcoming presidential election.
"The cases related to DPTs were widely debated during the recent legislative elections and therefore we hope it will not happen again in the upcoming presidential election," Anshari said at a meeting with the Southeast Sulawesi chapter of KPU in Kendari.
According to him the provincial KPU should pay serious attention to additional 60 thousands names in the DPT in Southeast Sulawesi.
"The data in the DPT should be clearly explained so that the people know the number of beginner voters, TNI and Police personnel who are no longer active, and the additional number," he said.
The KPU chairman also asked that the data of voters from Indonesian migrant workers abroad who had returned home should be taken.***
