JK-WIN TICKET BELIEVES IT WILL COMPETE IN RUNOFF

Mataram, Indonesia, June 30 (ANTARA) - The campaign team of the JK-WIN ticket believes it will run in a second round of the July 8 presidential election, a spokesman said.

"We predict that none of the candidates will win in one round so that the presidential elections will see a runoff," Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto (JK-WIN) campaign team spokesman Yuddy Chrisnadi said on Tuesday. He was on his way from Manado, North Sulawesi, to Mataram.

He said there were at least two reasons why the presidential election were predicted to run in more than one round.

The first reason was that the three presidential candidates shared balanced and equal spread of strength. The second was that the presidential election law stipulated that the victorious candidate should win 50 plus one of the votes with a spread of 20 percent in 17 provinces.

"Thus it will be very difficult for one candidate to win in a single round," Yuddy said.

He said that based on the JK-WIN team's calculations, the JK-WIN duo will be able to continue competing in the runoff.

"Our target is to squeeze into the second round, to face either the SBY-Boediono duo or the Mega-Pro pair. We are ready for the contest," Yuddy said.

Jusuf Kalla, chairman of the Golkar Party and incumbent vice president, is competing with two other presidential candidates. He is pairing with Wiranto, chairman of the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), as his running mate.

The other two presidential candidates are incumbent President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) of the Democratic Party (PD) and
former president Megawati Soekarnoputri of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

SBY is pairing up with former Bank Indonesia governor Boediono (SBY-Boediono ticket) while Megawati is running for president with Prabowo Subiyanto of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra).

The presidential election will be held on July 8, 2009. The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009.***
