PPI IN HOLLAND TO HOLD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON INDONESIAN DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

London, Jul 1 (ANTARA) - The Association of Indonesian Students (PPI) in the Netherlandsd and the Overseas Indonesian Students Association Alliance (OISAA) will hold an international symposium themed "Indonesian Overseas Intellectual Vision and Mission: Indonesian Development Strategy Toward 2020" in The Hague, the Netherlands, from July 3 to 5, 2009.

Chief organizer Achmad Adhitya told ANTARA in London Wednesday that the international symposium gets the suport of the Ministry of National Education Ministry, Ministry of Research and Technology, Ministry Youth and Sports, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and sponsored by various private institutions in Indonesia.

He said the participants in the symposium will discuss problems currently facing the Indonesian people, establishment of Indonesian networks and organizations throughout the world, sending a moral message that Indonesian intelletuals overseas devote a great attention to the condition of the Indonesian people, and discuss the problems of Indonesian students, and the development of Indonesian students' organizations abroad.

In the meantime, PPI secretary general in the Netherlands Yohanes Widodo said for the first time in twenty years Indonesian students abroad get together and hold an international symposium.

At least 30 PPIs across the world were involved in the planning and implementation of the symposium. But some PPI representatives could not come to the Dutch capital city, because of visa and financial problems.

He said the Indonesian ambassador to the Netherlands Jusuf Effendi Habibie had hailed the plan of holding the international symposium, which was scheduled to be opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono by way of a teleconference.
