HUNDREDS FROM PRO-SBY PARTIES DECLARE SUPPORT FOR JK-WIRANTO PAIR
Jakarta, July 2 (ANTARA) - Hundreds of people affiliated to three political parties officially supporting the SBY-Boediono ticket on Thursday declared their allegiance to the Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto pair.
"We hereby declare our support for the JK-Wiranto pair in the July presidential election," said one of the supporters as he read out their declaration statement before Jusuf Kalla at the Raden Intan sports stadium in East Jakarta on Thursday.
The crowd consisted of members or sympathizers of the United Development Party (PPP), the Reform Star Party (PBR), and the National Mandate Party (PAN) which are coalescing withe SNY's Demcoratic Party (PD).
After the declaration, Jusuf Kalla expressed his gratitude to the mass.
"Thank your for your support," Jusuf Kalla said in the company of his wife Mufidah Kalla.
Earlier, Kalla met representatives of the Student Executive Boards (BEMs) of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) who presented him with a written statement outlining their adpirations.
The BEM asked Kalla-Wiranto pair, if elected as president and vice president, to provide outstanding students with scholarships and improve the quality of education , to collect and compile data on local cultures and to make them a national asset and a means to conduct international diplomacy, and make domestic products trustworthy for national self-reliance.
Kalla and Wiranto held their electoral campaigns at five different locations instead of at the Bung Karno sports stadium because they wanted to make direct contact with the people.
They staged their campaign rallies at five locations, namely at Raden Intan sports stadium in East Jakarta, Senen sports hall in Central Jakarta, Sunter Podomoro multi-purpose hall in North Jakarta, Cengkareng Indah tennis court in West Jakarta, and Blok S square in South Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Wiranto, in his interactive dialog with the Indonesian Christian Women Association (PWKI) at Sultan Hotel here on Thursday said Indonesian women had the same rights as men in the upcoming July 8 presidential election.
Wiranto said justice and prosperity for Indonesian women had been developed since the past five years and the next leader should continue to maintain the progress achieved so far in this respect.***
