PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE`S MODERATOR EXPECTED TO PLAY MORE ACTIVE ROLE

Jakarta, July 2 (ANTARA) - The moderator in Thursday night's final round of the presidential candidates' debate should play a more active role in enlivening the event, an observer said.
"I hope the moderator will be able to motivate the presidential candidates to engage in a more substantial debate instead of being courteous," political observer Andrinov Chaniago said here on Thursday.

The third or final round of the presidential candidates debate will be organized from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday night at Balai Sarbini with Pratikno as moderator.

Andrinov said the second round of the presidential aspirants debate last Thursday with Aviliani as moderator represented significant progress but the vice presidential candidates debate moderated by Fahmi Idris was less interesting.

"That debate was less lively because the moderator was unable to make it more substantial," Andrinov said, adding that Pratikno in tonight's debate should play a more active role but not make too many intros.

Themed "The Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), Democracy, and Regional Autonomy", the final round of the debate tonight will be broadcast live by a private TV station.

Meanwile, General Elections Commission (KPU) member I Gusti Putu Artha said the debate tonight would be different from the previous ones.

He said format of the third session or the final round of the presidential candidates' debates would be changed by omitting the session for the vision and mission of each candidate.

Putu Artha said that by omitting the session for the vision and mission of each presidential candidate by the moderator, the final round of the debate would last longer.

The moderator, according to him, would skip the vision and mission intensification and directly come to the debate session so it would last longer.

With extra time in the final round of the debate, he said the atmosphere was expected to be more dynamic because the moderator would ask six questions to a certain candidate and then the other ones would respond to them.

Putu Artha said the moderator was expected to arrange the questions in such a way yhat the debate's climax would be reached in the last question.***
