PRABOWO : UNDER NEO-LIBERAL SYSTEM ONLY RICH PEOPLE TO SURVIVE

Sumedang, Indonesia, July 2 (ANTARA) - Vice-presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto said if the neo-liberal economic system continued to be applied in Indonesia, only the rich would eventually survive.

"If the neo-liberal system continues to be applied in Indonesia without government attention to the poor in the country, only the rich will eventually be able to live ," Prabowo said at Jatinangor in Sumedang district, West Java, on Thursday.

The vice presidential candidate made the statement at an indoor meeting with more than 2,000 best cadres of the Indonesian Democratic Party-Struggle (PDIP) from 17 districts in West Java.

Also present at the meeting were supporters and sympathizers of Prabowo's Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), and members of the Prabowo Supporters' United Front (F-PPP).

On the occasion Prabowo said he was gravely concerned about the neo-liberal system in Indonesia.

"Indonesia is more liberal than the mother of liberalism," Prabowo said, adding that liberalism in Indonesia was not only dominating the economic field but also health and education services.

Prabowo said with the enactment of the Law on Educational Legal Entities which implied high education fees, especially at universities, the dream of smart students from low-income families to enjoy higher education had been totally destroyed.

About the country's abundance in natural resources, Prabowo said they could be developed for the welfare of all people in accordance with the Constitution.

"Ibu Megawati was president once but she was not given enough time to make changes," Prabowo said, adding that now was the perfect time to make radical changes.

But he added the changes could happen only if Megawati and he were elected president and vice president in the upcoming July 8 election.

After attending the meeting in Sumedang, Prabowo continued his campaigning activity at the Gedebage Market in Bandung city.***
