WIRANTO WARNS PEOPLE: BEWARE OF 'DAYBREAK ATTACKS'
Brebes, C Java, July 3 (ANTARA) - Vice presidential candidate Wiranto has asked all voters in the country to beware of possible "daybreak attacks" (cash handouts to vote for a certain candidate) in the run up to the July 8 presidential election.
Wiranto said the people should be on guard against certain parties who would give them money or other things in what has become known as "daybreak attacks".
"Beware of the practice that we know as day break attacks," Wiranto said in his dialogic campaign before around 1,500 supporters and sympathizers of the Golkar Party and People's Conscience Party (Hanura) and other mass organizations in Brebes, Central Java, on Friday.
Presidential aspirant Jusuf Kalla's running mate said that based on experience in last April's legislative election, the number of ballots was changed so that the parties who actually won became the losers and those who actually lost became the winners.
"We must see to it that the people's votes will be respected," Wiranto said in his dialogic campaign at the Brebes Haj Dormitory here.
In the final days of the electoral campaign on Firday and Saturday, Wiranto conntinued staging electoral campaigns in Central Java and East Java.
Before leaving Halim Perdanakusuma airport in Jakarta for Central Java on Friday morning, Wiranto said the people should make their choice of a leader based on his or her qualifications rather than his or her place of origin.
"People should vote for a leader based on his or her qualifications, rather than his or her place of origin," Wiranto said at Halim Perdanakusuma airport before leaving for Central Java.
He added that only a leader with quality and capability could solve the nation's problems, not on the basis where they came from.
Nominated as vice presidential candidate by the People's Conscience Party (Hanura), Wiranto said he deplored a statement made recently by Andi Malarangeng of the Democratic Party that "It was not time for people from Makassar to be a president." ***1***
