VP CONSIDERS DPT PROBLEM GRAVE HUMAN RIGHT VIOLATION
Jakarta, July 3 (ANTARA) - Vice President M Jusuf Kalla has considered preventing people's voting rights by not including their names in the fixed illegible voter lists (DPTs) a grave human right violation.
"The DPT issue is a basic matter. It's the basic rights, namely the rights to vote. So if their basic rights is denied, it's a grave human rights violation," Vice President Kalla said when receiving members of the 'Dewan Harian Nasional (DHN) 45', here on Friday.
The DHN 45 delegation was led by its chairman R Soeprapto.
According to the vice president, the rights to vote and be voted are the basic rights.
"Therefore, I ask KPU (General Elections Commission) to immediately improve the DPTs so that the people could implement their rights," Kalla said.
On the occasion, he also asked for a blessing from the DHN 45 chairman and member in his beat to run as presidential candidate in the upcoming presidential race.
"We, I and Mr. Wiranto ask for your blessing as presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate to continue the ideals of the 1945 freedom fighters," he said.
Earlier DHN 45 Chairman Soeprapto said he had presented several proposals to the three presidential aspirants. DHN 45 also gave some proposals to the government on the DPT issue.
"We suggest that the implementation of the general elections should be the responsible of the KPU," Soeprapto.
DHN also suggested that the people could just show their identity cards (KTP) at voting polls to participate in the voting.
"But, the home affairs minister responded that for that purpose, a government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) is needed. And in fact, up to now it (Perppu) is not there," Soeprapto said.
Besides, DHN 45 also proposed another amendment of the Constitution (UUD 1945).
