PRESIDENT INSTRUCTS ALL GOVERNORS TO HELP IMPLEMENT JULY 8 POLL

Bogor, July 3 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed all provincial governors in the country to help the implementation of the presidential election on July 8, especially with regard to its security and the registration of voters.

"Today I issued an instruction to all governors in Indonesia with copies also sent to district heads and mayors and all officials of local administrations in line with the laws and government regulations issued before," he said when receiving people with impaired sight at his private residence in Cikeas on Friday.

In connection with the presidential election on July 8 all governors have been ordered by the President to help the General Elections Commission (KPU) and local election commissions (KPUD) assure that the fixed list of voters (DPT) was correct and would be ready in time and would not cause any problem later.

"They must do it transparently based upon a real good will of helping KPU and KPUDs," he said.

President Yudhoyono also called on all governors to assure security in their respective regions ahead of the polling so that all polling activities could run smoohtly, peacefully and orderly.

He also ordered the governors to assure that the implementation of the polls in the regions would run democratically without pressures, coercions, or any other undemocratic or unfair moves.

"As the head of state I appealed to all parties in line with the law to also do the same things. Do not let finger pointing to occur only after mistakes were made and we had been reluctant to help," he said.

He said the help was still needed although it was the KPU and KPUDs that organized it because a well-implemented poll was in principle also the commitment of all people of the country.

Yudhoyono pairing with former central governor Boediono would compete against incumbent vice president Yusuf Kalla and Wiranto as his running mate and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri who pairs up with Prabowo Subianto in the election.

The three presidential tickets have completed several debates held by the KPU so far to assure their supporters.
