MEGAWATI: BEWARE OF ELECTION FRAUD

Solo, Central Java, July 4 (ANTARA) - Presidential candidate Megawati Soekarnoputri has urged her supporters to be on alert of possible fraud in the upcoming presidential election.

"Fraud is very likely," Megawati, the chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), said in an electoral campaign rally at Sukoharjo square, here on Saturday.

She cited as an example that up to now, the issue of fixed eligible voter's lists (DPTs) was not solved yet. Among the problems concerning DPTs were a number of people who were not yet included in the DPTs and duplications of names in the DPTs, she said.

The daughter of former president Soekarno also hoped there would be no acts of intimidation, manipulation, pressure and bribery to make people vote for a certain presidential aspirant.

"We cannot accept these practices," he said.

She also complained on advertisements calling for just one round of the presidential election. The advertisements tried to influence people to do something, she said. If the organizer of the presidential election was fair, such an advertisement should be withdrawn, she said.

Therefore, she hoped that the people would not be stupid and not be influenced by deceptive tricks to promote a certain candidate.

She also asked the people to vote for her so she could implement nine political contracts that she and her running mate retired general Prabowo Subianto had signed with various parties, including with workers, university students, farmers and traders at traditional markets.

"Without your help, I won't be able to work," Megawati said before her supporters.

In the upcoming direct presidential election, Yudhoyono-Boediono will compete with Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto, and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri-Prabowo.

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed-door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009. The presidential elections will be held on July 8, 2009.
