CANDIDATES CONDUCT FINAL CAMPAIGN ACTIVITIES IN DIFFERENT PLACES
Jakarta, July 4 (ANTARA) - In their electoral campaign finales on Saturday, the three presidential candidates, namely Megawati Soekarnoputri, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, and M Jusuf Kalla will hold campaign rallies in three different places on Java Island.
Megawati will hold a public meeting at Sukoharjo square, while her running mate Prabowo Subianto will campaign at Simpang Lima, Semarang, Central Java's provincial capital.
Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will hold a campaign rally at the Bung Karno Sports Stadium, Senayan, Jakarta, with his running mate Boediono, former governor of Bank Indonesia (BI or central bank).
Kalla will tour five districts and Surabaya in East Java. Accompanied by his wife, Mufidah Kalla, Kalla will use a chartered helicopter.
In the upcoming direct presidential election, Yudhoyono-Boediono will compete with Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto, and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri-Prabowo.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) has set schedules for closed-door campaigning from June 2 to 10, and mass rallies from June 11 to July 4, 2009. The presidential elections will be held on July 8, 2009.
Indonesia has invited 50 senior officials from 27 Asian countries to directly witness the implementation of the presidential election scheduled for July 8, 2009, through the Election Visitor Program (EVP).
"The EVP participants will directly witness the implementation of the presidential election at several polling stations in Tangerang, Jogyakarta, Malang, Denpasar, Makassar, and Palembang," Teuku Faizasyah, a spokesman of the Indonesian foreign affairs ministry, said here on Friday (July 3).
The senior officials will be from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, the Philippines, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Cambodia, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kuwait, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Qatar, New Zealand, Singapore, Srilanka, Thailand, Timor Leste, The United Arab Emiratesb, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
