MALAYSIAN TOURIST ARRIVALS IN BALI UP 25.76 PERCENT
Denpasar, Bali, July 5 (ANTARA) - The number of Malaysian tourist arrivals in Bali reached 58,192 people, up 11,920 people or 25.76 percent during January-May 2009, from 46,727 people in the same period in 2008.
"They all arrived in Bali through Ngurah Rai Airport, none of them used cruiser," Head of the Bali provincial central bureau of statistics (BPS) Ida Komang Wisnu said here on Sunday.
In May 2009, some 14,210 Malaysian tourists visited Bali, up 1.3 percent from 14,028 in May last year, he said.
Malaysia ranked fourth after Australia, Japan and China on the list of the top ten of countries contributing to Bali's dollar earnings.
The Malaysian tourist arrivals accounted for 6.69 percent of the total of 870,029 foreign tourists visiting Bali during January-May 2009, he said.
According to Ida Komang Wisnu, the number of foreign tourists visiting Bali in the first five months this year increased by 9.76 percent or 792,657 foreigners in the same period a year earlier.
Last year, some 129,727 Malaysian tourists arrived at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, and four others entered Bali through seaport. The number increased by 24,764 people or 23.59 percent from 104,963 Malaysian tourists in 2007.
Malaysia is one of the 12 foreign art delegations participating in the 31st Bali Art Festival (PKB) which is going on in Bali currently.
Meanwhile, the number of Chinese tourist arrivals in Bali went up by 30,767 or 55.88 percent to 85,828 during the January-May period in 2009, from 55,061 in the same period last year.
The encouraging increase was among other things due to the opening of a direct airline route between China and Bali, Ida Komang Wisnu said on Saturday (July 3).
China ranks third on the list of the top ten of countries contributing to Bali's dollar earnings during the first five months this year, he said.
China accounted for 9.86 percent of 870,029 total foreign tourists visiting Bali during January-May 2009, which was up 9.76 percent from 792,657 tourists in the same period a year earlier.
