PANWASLU WARNS PEOPLE AGAINST MONEY POLITICS
Purwokerto, C Java, July 5 (ANTARA) - The Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) for Banyumas district, Central Java, alerted the people of possible money politics practices during the cooling down period in the runup to Wednesday's presidential elections.
"During the campaign period we relatively have found no money politics practice, but in entering the cooling down period we are focusing our monitoring on this matter because money politics practice is quite possible to happen," Panwaslu chairman for Banyumas Triwuryaningsih said here on Sunday.
Triwuraningsih called on the people to report immediately to the Panwaslu if they found money politics practices during the cooling down period, or a 'daybreak attack' (cash handouts to vote for a certain candidate) before the elections were actually held.
In the meantime, vice presidential candidate Wiranto has asked all voters in the country to beware of possible "daybreak attacks" in the run up to the July 8 presidential election.
Wiranto said the people should be on guard against certain parties who would hand them money or other presents in what have become known as "daybreak attacks".
"Beware of the practice that we know call day break attacks," Wiranto said in his dialogic campaign before around 1,500 supporters and sympathizers of the Golkar Party and People's Conscience Party (Hanura) and other mass organizations in Brebes, Central Java, over the weekend.
Presidential aspirant Jusuf Kalla's running mate said that based on experience in last April's legislative election, the number of ballots was changed so that the parties who actually won became the losers and on the other hand those who actually lost became the winners.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) is to organize a presidential elections on Wednesday. Three presidential candidates are to contest in the in polls on July 8 for the 2009-2014 term of office.
The three presidential and vice presidential pairs are Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro), Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his pair Boediono (SBY-Boediono), and Jusuf Kalla who runs for president with Wiranto (JK-WIN).***1***
