KPU RECHECKS FIXED VOTER LISTS OF SIX PROVINCES
Jakarta, July 5 (ANTARA) -The General Elections Commission (KPU) rechecked the fixed voters' lists (DPT) for the July 8 presidential and vice presidential polls in six provinces which were allegedly still facing the problem.
The central KPU office would discuss the DPT problem with the six KPU regional chapters namely West Java, Banten, Jakarta, Central Java, Yogyakarta and East Java, KPU Chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary said here on Sunday.
"We will settle (the DPT problem) to day. We are discussing the problem with six KPU provincial offices today," he said before the meeting took place.
Hafiz said the elections organizers had deleted double names of voters from the DPT, including unclear identity of voters, still active military and police personnel and citizens under the age of voting eligibility.
In addition, voters who are not registered in the last April legislative elections, have also been included in the DPT of the upcoming presidential race, he said, adding that if any people said
the DPT had not been properly prepared, such allegation should be proven with concrete evidence.
He also asserted that the repeated registration of the citizenship identification number (NIK) does not necessarily involved the very same voters.
"We need that every report is equipped with evidence, and the names in voters in dispute sent to us, as the report cannot be accepted if it is only in the form of a discourse. We are still waiting for the report about the conflicting voter names, and any evidence of this needs to be sent to us, to enable us to handle and process the problem, " the KPU Chairman said.
Three presidential aspirants will compete in the upcoming direct presidential polls on Wednesday (July 8) for the 2009-2014 term of office.
The three presidential and vice presidential pairs are Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro), Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his pair Boediono (SBY-Boediono), and Jusuf Kalla and his running mate, Wiranto (JK-WIN).
