KALLA, MEGAWATI URGE KPU TO REVISE DPT
Jakarta, July 6 (ANTARA) - Presidential aspirants Jusuf Kalla and Megawati Soekarnoputri have urged the General Elections Commission (KPU) to revise the permanent voters list (DPT).
The revision of DPT is demanded by Kalla and Megawati because thousands of voters are feared to lose their rights to vote on the July 8 presidential election on Wednesday.
"In a meeting at Muhammadiyah office here on Sunday night it was found that thousands of voters have yet to be listed on the DPT to cast their ballots on Wednesday's presidential election," spokesman of Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto pair's campaign team Fahmi Idris said after the meeting.
Fahmi Idris said the two pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates, Kalla-Wiranto and Mega-Prabowo, would come to KPU office on Monday to hand in the finding and urge the Commission to revise the DPT immediately before the election.
"We are going to ask to KPU to explain the DPT data because based on our finding and that which was reported by the people, a lot of voters have yet to be listed on the DPT," Fahmi Idris said.
He said that in the meeting with KPU later on Monday they would urge the Commission to revise the unregistered voters and to include them in the election process on Wednesday.
"We hope the KPU will settle the case immediately before the election," he added.
Fahmi Idris said he was optimistic that the KPU would settle the case professionally.
Meanwhile, Megawati-Prabowo campaign team spokesman Pomfida Hidayatulah said the urge to KPU to revise the DPT was part of their effort to defend the people's democratic rights.
"We hope Wednesday's presidential election will be conducted fairly, justly, peacefully, and democratically," Hidayatulah said, adding that the meeting at the Muhamadiyah office was chaired by the second biggest Islamic organization's chairman Din Syamsuddin.
