KPU URGED TO DISSEMINATE DPT VERIFICATION RESULTS FAST
Jakarta, July 7 (ANTARA) - The campaign teams of the three presidential candidates called on the General Elections Commission (KPU) to act fast in informing polling organizers throughout the country about the results of its verification of fixed voters' lists (DPTs).
"What is important is that the Polling Committees (PPS) and Polling Organizers' Groups (KPPS) should receive the DPTs with updated data immediately," Rully Chairul Azwar, campaign team member of the Jusuf Kalla - Wiranto presidential pair, said here on Tuesday.
He was accompanying KPU Chairman Abdul Hafiz Anshary in announcing the results of a KPU effort to verify DPTs.
Azwar hoped that the presidential election on Wednesday would not be hampered by technical matters such as duplicated voters' names, voters with unclear identities and active military/police personnel.
He said the KPU and the campaign teams were only able to verify DPTs in 70 of the 471 electoral districts and expressed hope that the verification would not stop until the end of the KPU and the joint teams verification.
According to Azwar, problematic data were found in DPTs in almost all districts/mayoralties.
In the meantime, Megawati-Prabowo campaign team member Fadli Zon said the verification showed that there were still electoral districts which still used data from last April's legislative elections, or regional head elections.
He said after having done the verification he believed there were about 4.6 million voters who had their names duplicated in the DPTs.
The KPU will stage a presidential election on Wednesday. Three presidential candidates are to contest the July 8 poll for the 2009-2014 term of office.
The three presidential and vice presidential pairs are Megawati Soekarnoputri and her running mate Prabowo Subianto (Mega-Pro), Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his pair Boediono (SBY-Boediono), and Jusuf Kalla who runs for president with Wiranto (JK-WIN).***1***
