San Francisco's Lee Jung-hoo falls homer shy of cycle in 3-hit game

SEOUL, April 10 (Yonhap) -- Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants fell a home run shy of the cycle as he enjoyed his second three-hit game of the season.

Lee batted 3-for-5 with a single, a double and a triple -- the first of his career -- as the Giants walked off the Cincinnati Reds 8-6 in 10 innings at Oracle Park in San Francisco on Wednesday (local time).

Lee, who also drove in a run and scored a run, is now batting .333/.375/.533 in 11 games this season. He leads Major League Baseball (MLB) with seven doubles. He also had three hits Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.

Only one South Korean has hit for the cycle in MLB -- Choo Shin-soo for the Texas Rangers against the Colorado Rockies on July 21, 2015.

A day after his eight-game hitting streak ended, Lee struck out in the bottom of the first and then hit a triple in the fourth, cutting the Giants' deficit to 5-1. Lee was thrown out at home trying to score on a groundball back to pitcher Nick Martinez.

With the Giants down 6-1 in the sixth, Lee singled off Martinez, reached third on a double by Mike Yastrzemski and then scored on Martinez's wild pitch.

Lee led off the seventh with a double for his third hit of the game.

The Giants pulled even at 6-6 with a run in the eighth and then won the game on a two-run blast by Yastrzemski in the 10th.
