Abkhazia’s new foreign minister determined to strengthen allied relations with Russia

Oleg Bartsits was appointed as foreign minister on April 18 based on President Badra Gunba’s decree

SUKHUM, April 22. /TASS/. Abkhazia’s new Foreign Minister Oleg Bartsits sees reinforcing relations with Russia as a top priority for the foreign policy agency.

Bartsits was appointed as foreign minister on April 18 based on President Badra Gunba’s decree.

"The president highlighted a number of aspects of the foreign policy agency’s activities, some of which are perfectly clear, including the promotion of our national interests and our diplomatic activities on the international stage," Bartsits told TASS. "They certainly include strategic partnerships and the enhancement of ties with our main friend and partner Russia, including the federal government, as well as broader cooperation with Russian regions. This is also an important part of our work that we will definitely intensify. Of course, we will also work to protect the interests and rights of our fellow citizens abroad, as required by the Regulation on the Abhazian Foreign Ministry, and will certainly carry out activities in the parts of the world where the situation could pave the way for more countries to recognize our independence," the top diplomat added.

According to him, Gunba promised comprehensive support for the Foreign Ministry’s activities. "This is why we are quite optimistic about the future, and we will focus the ministry’s personnel on further well-coordinated, active and dedicated work and observance of labor discipline, which will eventually help us achieve the results required for our country’s recognition and its cooperation with the world," Bartsits stressed.
