Major package of agreements prepared to boost Russia-Oman relations — Putin
MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. A significant package of documents promoting the development of relations between Muscat and Moscow has been prepared ahead of the arrival of Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Russian President Vladimir Putin said as he opened talks with the Omani head of state.
"We share a very good background. Our contacts are developing, and a solid package of documents has been prepared for your visit, which will undoubtedly create additional conditions and a strong regulatory framework for the development of our relations in all areas," the Russian leader said.
He thanked the sultan for visiting Moscow. "Your Majesty, you are well known in Russia, you have visited our country many times. Moreover, in 1985 it was you who put your signature to the agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations between our countries. This year we will celebrate the 40th anniversary of our diplomatic ties," the head of state emphasized.
The talks between Putin and Haitham bin Tariq Al Said mark the first meeting of heads of state in the history of bilateral relations between Russia and Oman. Following the meeting, the delegations plan to sign 10 agreements, including a mutual waiver of visa requirements for ordinary passport holders. A protocol on the establishment of a joint commission for trade, economic and technical cooperation is also ready to be signed.
