Active Government And Arab Presence... The Arab Media Conference In Baghdad Affirms The Role Of Media In Combating Climate Change

Baghdad / NINA /- The second day of the fourth Arab Media Conference kicked off today, Thursday, in the capital, Baghdad. The conference is organized by the Iraqi Media Network under the auspices of the Arab Broadcasting Union. The conference was attended by advisors to the Prime Minister, the President of the Arab Journalists Federation, and the head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Mu'ayyad al-Lami, as well as Iraqi academic and media figures and Arab decision-makers.
During the inaguartion ceremony, Karim Hammadi, Chairman of the Iraqi Media Network, said, "Today we celebrate the convening of the fourth Arab Media Conference in Baghdad, the city that has regained its health and risen from the ashes of challenges."
He added, "Baghdad's hosting of this event, with the participation of more than 150 Arab media professionals and journalists, is an important milestone in Iraq's path toward openness to its Arab and regional environment, and reflects the growing confidence in the role played by the Iraqi Media Network." He noted that "Iraq has witnessed major transformations in the past few years on the political, economic, and urban levels. The media, led by the Iraqi Media Network, has played an active role in accompanying this process, highlighting the achievements made, and presenting a balanced and responsible image of our country's current situation."
He continued, "The conference is being held with the direct support of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who has been and continues to be a true sponsor of the national media and believes in the importance of consolidating press freedom and strengthening its role as a fundamental pillar in building the state."
He explained, "The Prime Minister has provided exceptional support to the Iraqi Media Network, recognizing its vital role and its ongoing need for development." He noted that "the Fourth Arab Media Conference pays special attention to one of the greatest challenges facing humanity as a whole, which is the climate change."
He added, "Baghdad today is not only hosting the conference, but it is also a message confirming that Iraq has returned strongly to its surroundings and is ready to become a center of cultural, media, and intellectual influence."
For his part, Aref Al-Saadi, the Prime Minister's representative, advisor for cultural affairs, emphasized that "Baghdad is pleased to host a conference that discusses one of the most serious issues, which is the climate change. Whereas the media used to discuss terrorism, today it is discussing climate change, and this is a new chapter."
He added, "The media is not merely a transmitter of news, but a partner in policy-making," calling on the conference to launch an Arab media alliance to confront and address climate and environmental problems.
For his part, Mohammed Fahd Al-Harthi, President of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, emphasized that media is a soft and influential force, not only in shaping public opinion, but also in motivating positive behavior in support of sustainable environmental policies.
He added, "Climate change has become the most important and dangerous challenge threatening humanity, and we have been keen to raise the issue of climate change due to its importance. At this conference, we will work to present a document or charter for environmental media that outlines the broad guidelines for addressing climate change." /End
