YKKI OPENS INTERNATIONAL-STANDARD SCHOOL IN AMBON
Ambon, July 11 (ANTARA) - Kalam Kudus Indonesia Foundation (YKKI) has opened a school of international-standards in Ambon, Maluku, to improve the quality of education in the province.
"The school in Ambon is the latest of the international standard schools we have set up in 24 cities in 16 provinces since 1964. The schools now have a total of 21,000 students and 300 professional teachers," YKKI chairman Jemmy Singal said here on Saturday.
The school in Ambon, called "Bilingual School Grade One", was dedicated by Maluku Governor Karel Albert Ralahalu on Saturday.
Singal explained the school was established in Ambon to improve the quality of education in the province for local students in the present educational development and globalization era.
"The Bilingual School Grade One basic education program in Maluku is expected to meet the future challenges and educational development in the province," Singal said.
Meanwhile, Governor Ralahalu asked the foundation not to set the school fee at a level that was too high for local students.
"Education with international standard is actually expensive but the fee at the Bilingual School Grade One in Maluku should not be burdensome to the parents who intend to send their children to this school," the governor said.
Such a school is the first of its kind to be developed in Ambon, Maluku, even in the eastern part of Indonesia.
Ralahalu was of the opinion that in the future the concept of an adequate education but with international standard could be enjoyed by the children from all layers of the community in Maluku.
"That's why I want to remind YKKI that the school should not be only for children of rich families but also for brilliant students whose parents are unable to afford it," Ralahalu said.
The governor expressed hope that the school would be open to students with different economic backgrounds.
"The Maluku provincial administration will always pay great attention to education development in the province, including the one with international standard developed by the Yayasan Kalam Kudus Indonesia (Indonesia Holy Word Foundation).
