Medical Council Upholds Disciplinary Action Against 3 Doctors in Thaksin Case

BANGKOK, June 12 (TNA) - The Medical Council of Thailand has reaffirmed its decision to take disciplinary action against three doctors linked to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's controversial transfer from prison for hospital treatment.

This ruling, announced today overrides a veto by Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin.

Professor Dr. Prasit Wattanapha, Vice President of the Medical Council, stated the council's two-thirds majority vote upheld its May 8, 2025 resolution.

The May 8 resolution specifically called for suspending the medical licenses of two senior doctors at Police General Hospital, citing their alleged exaggeration of Mr. Thaksin's condition to facilitate his extended stay. Additionally, one doctor from the Corrections Department Hospital received a formal warning for misusing her position in Mr. Thaksin's transfer.

With 68 of 69 eligible members present, the council's vote solidifies these disciplinary measures. The next step involves issuing a binding order to enforce the decision. - 819 (TNA)
