Cambodia to End Reliance on Thai Electricity and Internet Amidst Border Tensions

BANGKOK, June 13 (TNA) - Ahead of a Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting scheduled for June 14, aimed at de-escalating border issues, Cambodia has officially announced its intention to become independent of Thai electricity and internet supplies.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet declared late on June 12 via social media, that Cambodia would cease purchasing internet and electricity from Thailand.
Supporting this move, Chea Vandet, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, confirmed that all Cambodian fiber optic cable companies and internet providers ceased buying internet from Thailand as of midnight, June 12.
He attributed this decision to Cambodia's established self-sufficiency in internet services. Concurrently, Keo Rattanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, affirmed Cambodia's capacity to independently supply its own electricity.
In a related development, Hun Sen, the former Prime Minister and current President of the Cambodian Senate, publicly called for a suspension of Thai film and drama broadcasts, and also suggested halting the import of Thai goods. He stated these actions would be symbolic yet essential for upholding Cambodia's sovereignty and dignity amid ongoing border tensions.
Following this, Cambodia's Ministry of Information issued an official directive to all television stations, instructing them to stop broadcasting all types of Thai films from midnight on June 12 onwards. -819 (TNA)
