Judiciary says 71 people killed in Israeli strike on Evin Prison

Tehran, IRNA- Judiciary spokesperson Asghar Jahangiri has said that 71 people lost their lives in an Israeli attack on Evin Prison, in northern Tehran.

The official announced the figure on Sunday, according to a press release by the media center of the Judiciary, giving the latest toll of the attack that took place on June 23.

According to the spokesperson, those killed included administrative staff, young men doing their military service, inmates and their family members visiting them. Neighbors living in the vicinity of the prison were also killed or injured, he added.

Jahangiri said that the Israeli attack also caused heavy material damage, emphasizing that the strike marked a “full-scale crime.”

Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei already condemned the barbaric attack, saying that Iran would pursue the matter in international legal bodies.

Israel began an unprovoked war of aggression against Iran on June 13, killing over 600 people, including top military commanders, scientists, and civilians.

The Iranian Armed Forces responded powerfully, inflicting widespread damage to areas across the occupied territories.

On June 22, the United States joined Israel, and in coordination with the regime, attacked three Iranian nuclear sites in violation of international law, prompting global condemnations.

The U.S.-Israeli aggression lasted 12 days and came to an end following a ceasefire.
