Aged Thorn Honey: Nature’s Nutritional Treasure in Al-Baha

Al-Baha, July 29, 2025, SPA -- Aged thorn honey, a rare and distinguished bee product found in several mountainous regions of Saudi Arabia, especially Al-Baha, is harvested from the nectar of ancient thorny trees such as Acacia nilotica, thorny acacia, and Vachellia flava. Known for its high nutritional value, it develops a distinctive flavor that intensifies over time, earning it the name "aged honey."
Produced seasonally during the summer, thorn honey comes from bees in mountainous and desert environments where these resilient trees thrive. The region's unique geography, which includes deserts, the Sarawat Mountains, and the Tihama plains, supports diverse climates and vegetation, enabling the production of over 50 types of natural honey.
Aged thorn honey is characterized by its dark color, aromatic floral scent, and concentrated taste, which becomes richer with time. Traditionally, it is stored in airtight clay or glass containers for one to three years, enhancing both its density and nutritional value.
