Yonhap News signs agreement with VNA to enhance Vietnamese news service

SEOUL, Aug. 12 (Yonhap) -- Yonhap News Agency, South Korea's key newswire, on Tuesday signed an agreement with Vietnam's national news agency to help bolster its new Vietnamese news service utilizing artificial intelligence (AI).
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Yonhap News Agency President and CEO Hwang Dae-il and Vu Viet Trang, general director of Vietnam News Agency (VNA), during a business forum between the two countries in Seoul.
Under the agreement, VNA will offer consultations through its Seoul bureau to help improve the quality of Yonhap's Vietnamese news service. VNA will also post a banner link to the service on its website to boost access among readers in Vietnam.
During a separate meeting at Yonhap's headquarters in Seoul, Hwang expressed hope that the service would become "the most accurate and fastest channel" for delivering major Korean news and information to some 300,000 Vietnamese residents in Korea and to the Vietnamese-speaking readers worldwide.
On Monday, Yonhap officially launched its Vietnamese service covering key current issues in Korean politics, economy, culture and more, targeting Vietnamese readers residing in South Korea and beyond, becoming the first Korean news agency to do so.
The service improves translation quality and accuracy by first translating Korean- and English-language news articles written by Yonhap reporters into Vietnamese using AI, then having them copyedited by a native speaker and finally reviewed again by a Korean editor with AI assistance.
The launch brought to seven the number of foreign-language news services provided by Yonhap News Agency.
