City of Vladivostok to change in full after infrastructure overhaul.
14/7 Tass 98
VLADIVOSTOK, July 14 (Itar-Tass) - Infrastructure overhauls underway
in Vladivostok, the largest city in the Russian Far East in the run-up to
the 2012 summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum /APEC/ will
fully change the place, Vyacheslav Fetisov who represents in the Primorsky
/Maritime/ territory in the upper house of Russian parliament said Tuesday.
He came to Vladivostok to examine the span of preparations for the
summit.
"It's clear already now how far the preparations have helped promote
the attitude towards the Primorsky territory and the Far East in general,"
Fetisov said.
"The prospects for the city's gains after the summit are clear, too,"
he went on. "The infrastructure that will be set up here eventually will
make it possible to re-equip the entire city."
"Quite naturally, this means the emergence of serious incentives for
the economy and for the social sphere and for many other areas as well,"
Fetisov said. "Also, it's worthwhile mentioning the feeling of being part
of a great country that people get when they see the projects like the
bridge to the Russky Island /located several kilometers off Vladivostok-
Itar-Tass/."
"This is no less important than other factors," he said.
Fetisov recalled that, along with preparations for the APEC summit,
Russia is implementing another large-scale infrastructure project today -
the construction of facilities for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in the
Black Sea resort city of Sochi.
In the course of this trip, Fetisov had meetings with Maritime
territory legislators, received rank-and-file citizens and visited the
facilities being built for the summit.
His plans include a visit to a sports center in the town of Artyom and
an aquafarm in the Khasan district.
