Soldier Loses Leg in Landmine Blast Near Ta Kwai Temple

SURIN, Aug 28 (TNA) - A Thai soldier lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine near Ta Kwai Temple in Surin, one of three soldiers injured in the blast. This is the sixth such incident in just over a month.

The explosion occurred today at 3:45 PM while a patrol team was in a Thai operational area. The injured were identified as Pvt. Adisorn Pomklang, who lost his lower right leg, and two others who sustained minor wounds.

Lt. Gen. Boonsin Padklang, Commander of the 2nd Army Region, stated that the area is a heavily fortified area with numerous landmines placed by Cambodian forces, and the mine—made of plastic—went undetected. A formal protest has been filed with Cambodia.

The series of six landmine incidents since mid-July has injured multiple soldiers and resulted in five amputations. -819 (TNA)
