Jeddah, August 27, 2025, SPA -- King Abdulaziz University, through its Special Infectious Agents Unit at the King Fahd Medical Research Center, produced 57 peer-reviewed scientific publications during the first half of 2025, reflecting its role in strengthening public-health security and advancing scientific innovation.
The research center’s Special Infectious Agents Unit-BSL3 head, Dr. Esam Ibraheem Azhar, stated that the published studies cover critical areas of global health, including high-risk pathogens, antimicrobial resistance, nanobiotechnology and diagnostics, zoonotic and vector-borne diseases, One Health surveillance, and sero-epidemiology.
He noted that the research resulted from multidisciplinary collaboration with local academic and clinical institutions and national networks such as the Ministry of Health, in addition to international partners from Europe, Asia, and North Africa.
The work aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and supports pandemic preparedness, advanced diagnostics, and the fight against antimicrobial resistance, he said.
Dr. Azhar pointed out that the unit aims to expand translational research platforms, strengthen capacity building in biosafety level 3 (BSL-3), and deepen academic, industrial, and governmental collaboration to support national and global health security priorities.
