Landslide Search Continues in Northern Thailand

CHAING MAI, Aug 29 (TNA) - Rescue teams in northern Thailand are continuing to search for three people still missing after a landslide in the village of Ban Pang Ung, Mae Chaem District, on Wednesday. The search, now in its third day, follows the recovery of six bodies.

The landslide destroyed seven homes and partially damaged over a hundred more. Hundreds of villagers, including children and the elderly, have been displaced and are in need of basic necessities like clothing. Donations are being accepted at the Mae Chaem District office.

The search for the remaining three missing persons — two children and one woman — is challenging due to the large amount of debris and mud. Rescue workers and heavy machinery are clearing the area near a stream opposite Wat Phrathat Pang Ung, where two bodies were found yesterday. The teams believe the missing persons may be trapped there.

Meanwhile, in Mae Hong Son Province, authorities are also searching for two people who went missing in a flash flood. A Bailey bridge is being installed to temporarily replace a washed-out bridge in Mueang District, and is expected to be operational by September 1.

The Mae Hong Son provincial government has declared two districts emergency disaster zones and is mobilizing resources to restore affected areas by September 1. -819 (TNA)
