President of Iraq Receives Ambassadors, Affirms Commitment to Elections and Democracy

Baghdad / NINA /- President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Tuesday, at Baghdad Palace, the Arab and foreign diplomatic mission heads accredited to Iraq.

At the beginning of the meeting, the President welcomed the ambassadors, noting that the stability Iraq enjoys on security, political, and economic levels has helped direct efforts towards reconstruction, infrastructure development, and providing facilities and support for investment projects across various sectors.

Jamal Rashid affirmed that the parliamentary elections will be held on their scheduled date, emphasizing the presidency’s close follow-up on the Independent High Electoral Commission’s preparations for free and fair elections. He also urged citizens to participate widely in electing their parliamentary representatives, expressing pride in Iraq’s democratic experience since 2003 and in the peaceful transfer of power.

The President also highlighted the presidency’s role in releasing more than 23,000 prisoners whose sentences had ended, as well as in monitoring committees responsible for implementing the general amnesty law.

Rashid stressed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening friendly and cooperative relations with regional and global countries in a manner that preserves shared interests and national sovereignty. He expressed appreciation for the ambassadors’ efforts to enhance relations and develop cooperation, contributing to regional and international security and stability.

The meeting also addressed several international issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the Palestinian issue. The President reaffirmed Iraq’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people and its total rejection of aggression against them, calling on the international community to take decisive action to ensure Palestinians’ full rights to establish their independent state.

For their part, the Arab and foreign ambassadors praised the importance of such meetings in clarifying Iraq’s vision on local and international issues. They wished Iraq success in the upcoming elections to strengthen its democratic experience, expressing their gratitude and appreciation to the President for his dedication to fostering friendship and joint cooperation./ End
