Al-Mandalawi: The UN Is A Key Partner In Building The New Iraq

Baghdad / NINA /- First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, affirmed that Parliament views the United Nations as a key partner in building the new Iraq, praising the role played by the UNAMI mission over the past two decades in supporting reform and strengthening national institutions.

Al-Mandalawi’s media office stated that he received today, Friday, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Head of the UNAMI Mission, Mohamed El Hassan. The meeting discussed the latest developments on the local and regional arenas, as well as the role of the international organization in promoting stability and supporting political and economic development, particularly during the transitional phase the UN mission in Iraq is currently going through.

Al-Mandalawi called on the United Nations to assume its humanitarian and moral responsibility in halting what he described as “mass killings and starvation warfare” carried out by the Zionist entity against the people of Gaza, warning that the continuation of such crimes without a clear and firm stance from the international community constitutes a flagrant violation of international conventions and principles of human justice.

For his part, Mohamed El Hassan expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with the Iraqi authorities, reiterating the UN’s commitment to continue supporting Iraq in its reform and development paths. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the Iraq–UN partnership in a way that strengthens regional stability and serves the interests of the peoples of the region./ End
