YUDHOYONO DENIES NAMES IN CIRCULATION WOULD-BE CABINET MEMBERS

Cikeas, W Java, July 14 (ANTARA) - Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has denied that a number of names mentioned in several mass media were of those who would be cabinet ministers for the 2009-2014 period.

He issued the denial at a press conference at his private residence in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday.

Yudhoyono, who according to unofficial quick counts has won the July 8 presidential election, said he had not yet discussed or chosen names for his would-be cabinet, arguing he still had to be declared president-elect by the General Elections Commission (KPU).

"(I have made) no plan yet for picking names for discussion for the cabinet based on the result of the presidential election," he said.

Therefore, he called on the public not to believe people who claimed they could facilitate a person to become cabinet minister.

"There is no broker, no political middlemen who can facilitate someone to become a cabinet member," he said.

Yudhoyono said he would only start forming his cabinet after the official announcement of the result of the presidential election was made by the end of this month or early August.

"If, God willing, I am named president-elect, I will not immediately form a cabinet, much less now. It has not reached that stage," he said.

He said after the KPU's official announcement was made and if he was really named president-elect there were still two months left before the present cabinet ended its term on October 20.

He said he would form his cabinet himself later and would also ask for suggestions from vice president-elect Boediono to create a professional government.

On the occasion, he said he felt it was necessary to give clarification because he did not want to see a recurrence of his 2004 experience.

He said at the time he received a lot of protests and curses from various quarters because their names were not on the list of cabinet members although they had mentioned in the mass media.

"While actually I knew nothing about it, meaning the source was not me. People were only made to believe the names came from Cikeas. I don't want this to happen again now," he said.
