The Minister Of Labor Signs A MoU With Russia To Expand Cooperation In Social Protection And Employment

Baghdad / NINA /- Iraq’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, signed today a Memorandum of Understanding with Russia’s Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Anton Kotyakov, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of labor and social protection.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart in Baghdad, Al-Asadi said the talks covered key issues, most notably social protection, occupational health and safety, and the use of artificial intelligence technologies in employment and poverty reduction. He noted that Russia has successful experiences from which Iraq can benefit through the exchange of expertise and the development of joint programs.

He added that the memorandum will serve as a foundation for broader partnerships, including support for persons with disabilities and special needs. Al-Asadi also expressed Iraq’s keenness to participate in upcoming conferences hosted by Moscow, affirming Iraq’s support for Russia’s positions on labor, social protection, and disability rights, in addition to strengthening coordination between the two ministries within the framework of the International Labour Organization.

For his part, the Russian minister stressed that the signing of the memorandum represents an important step toward expanding future cooperation between Iraq and Russia. He pointed out that the discussions with the Iraqi minister addressed key issues such as poverty reduction, strengthening social protection systems, improving occupational health and safety standards, creating job opportunities, and introducing modern technologies into Iraq’s labor sector./ End
