Cambodia Pledges to Help Thailand Combat Scams

SA KAEO, Sept 17 (TNA) - Cambodia has committed to helping Thailand tackle call center scams, following a 10-hour meeting between senior police officials from both countries.

During the meeting, held in Sa Kaeo province on Tuesday, Thailand provided intelligence on scam hub locations in Cambodia, and both sides discussed human trafficking linked to these crimes, which have caused widespread harm to Thai citizens.

Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, head of Thailand's Police Cyber Taskforce (PCT), said Cambodia will submit an action plan within one month.

The discussion, which included the signing of a joint agreement, was a continuation of a prior meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) held on September 10 in Koh Kong, Cambodia.

The extensive duration of the meeting was due to the need for careful negotiation and revisions to the official agreement, according to Gen. Thatchai.

He added that the Thai military would closely monitor the situation and evaluate progress based on a decline in online fraud complaints. -819 (TNA)
