NARATHIWAT, Sept 17 (TNA) - A roadside bomb and subsequent gunfire injured four paramilitary rangers on Wednesday as they patrolled a road in Su-ngai Padi district, Narathiwat province, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:53 a.m. when a group of rangers were on a routine security patrol.

The four injured officers, who were taken to hospital for treatment.

Following the attack, commanders ordered an increase in security measures, including heightened readiness at military bases, checkpoints, and government buildings, as well as in convenience stores and community areas to prevent further attacks.

Troops were also instructed to be fully prepared with personnel, weapons, and communication equipment to respond to any new incidents immediately.

Initially, authorities believe the incident was caused by an improvised explosive device. The attackers are thought to have been aiming to create unrest and ambush a bomb disposal unit team heading to investigate a pipe bomb attack on a convenience store in Yala the previous night.
