Surion helicopter maintenance training program conducted for Iraqi mechanics

SEOUL, Sept. 24 (Yonhap) -- The Army has launched a training program for Iraqi mechanics to educate them on maintenance of South Korea's Surion helicopters following last year's export deal of the homegrown chopper, officials said Wednesday.
The five-day training will be run through Friday for 12 Iraqi mechanics to share maintenance tips for the Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH), known as Surion helicopters, according to the armed forces.
The move comes as South Korea clinched a 136 billion-won (US$97.5 million) export deal of the Surion helicopters with Iraq in December.
The Army said it plans to support training programs tailored to countries that will buy South Korean arms and equipment in an effort to expand defense cooperation, officials said.
