PM Confirms: Toyota Iraq Industrial Project Is The Beginning Of Car Manufacturing In The Country

Baghdad / NINA/- Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Wednesday launched the executive works of the Toyota Iraq Industrial, Storage, and Service Project in Baghdad, affirming that it marks the actual beginning of automobile manufacturing in the country.
Al-Sudani stated during the inauguration ceremony that the project represents a model of partnership between the Iraqi private sector and reputable international companies, foremost among them Toyota of Japan. He noted that it reflects the growing strength of Iraqi-Japanese relations and praised the Japanese ambassador’s efforts in enhancing bilateral cooperation.
The Prime Minister explained that the project, which being implemented for the first time in Iraq under Toyota’s franchise, covers an area of 225,000 square meters, with a total cost of 30 billion dinars. It will be executed in two phases, introducing the gradual transfer of vehicle manufacturing and service technologies.
He emphasized that the project is environmentally friendly and aligns with Iraq’s commitments to international standards on climate change and carbon emission reduction. He added that the government places special priority on providing job opportunities for young people, coupled with training and skill development, to showcase their national capabilities.
Al-Sudani underlined the government’s determination to create a safe and attractive investment environment while tackling bureaucratic obstacles that hinder projects. He stressed that Iraq is on the verge of a wide-ranging urban and service renaissance that requires vehicles, machinery, and equipment to meet its developmental needs.
The Prime Minister further pointed out that the project will reduce reliance on imports from neighboring countries, which have led to higher costs and loss of expertise for Iraqi consumers. He also revealed government directives to amend the Commercial Agencies Law in line with global corporate standards to safeguard their rights.
Al-Sudani concluded by affirming that the Toyota Iraq Project stands as a pioneering step on the path of sustainable development and a genuine project for the Iraqi people, reiterating his government’s commitment to fully support the private sector and provide all necessary facilities to lay the foundations for real economic growth./ End
