President Sadyr Zhaparov wraps up working visit to New York

Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2025 /Kabar/. The working visit of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov to New York has ended, the press service of the head of state reported.

On the first day of his visit, as part of the High-Level Week events of the 80th Anniversary Session of the UN General Assembly, President Zhaparov met with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, now Executive Chairman of the Institute for Global Change.

During the meeting, prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the Institute for Global Change were discussed.

Later that day, the president met with Sergio Gore, the US President's Special Representative for South and Central Asia.

The meeting discussed strengthening relations in both bilateral and multilateral formats, including economic cooperation.

On the second day, the president participated in the opening of the General Debate of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, attended by heads of state and delegations from 195 countries.

The anniversary session of the UN General Assembly opened under the slogan "Better Together."

A number of meetings were held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week, including President Sadyr Zhaparov's meeting with Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stoecker.

During the meeting, issues of Kyrgyz-Austrian cooperation, including economics, investment, ecology, and tourism, were discussed.

The president of Kyrgyzstan also met with Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaytwa, where the two sides discussed the current state and prospects of Kyrgyz-Namibian relations, which are still developing (diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 2000).

Furthermore, the head of state met with Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Nguema.

At this meeting, a Joint Communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed.

The president's next talks were with Guinea-Bissau President Oumarou Sisoko Embalo. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in February 2025. During the meeting, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to developing dialogue and agreed to identify specific areas of cooperation.

President Sadyr Zhaparov then held talks with Paolo Zampolli, the US Special Presidential Envoy for Global Partnerships, where the two sides exchanged views on the further development of relations in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

Before the debates, the head of state held a brief meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. The leaders exchanged views on regional issues and agreed on matters for the upcoming CIS Summit.

President Sadyr Zhaparov also had the opportunity to exchange views with French President Emmanuel Macron. The leaders also discussed the international agenda.

Sadyr Zhaparov then addressed the General Debate of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly.

In his speech, the head of state called for the lifting of unfair sanctions against Kyrgyzstan, the return of frozen Afghan assets to the Afghan people, and an end to the genocide in Palestine.

Sadyr Zhaparov also advocated for the renunciation of nuclear weapons, the strengthening of peacekeeping, and joint efforts by the international community to combat climate change.

Following this day, a reception was held for the heads of state hosted by US President Donald Trump and the First Lady of the United States on the occasion of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

On the third day of the visit, the head of state met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the General Assembly, President Sadyr Zhaparov met with Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Tonga Aisake Eke. The two sides agreed to mutually support initiatives within international organizations. Diplomatic relations between the countries were established on December 7, 2022.

On September 24, the head of state addressed a special event on climate change at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. In his speech, he noted that the Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) document on fulfilling the country's climate change commitments was adopted last week.

On the same day, President Sadyr Zhaparov held talks with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. The discussion focused on deepening cooperation and key aspects of the international agenda.

Concluding the bilateral meetings, President Sadyr Zhaparov held brief talks with British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy. At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on issues on the international agenda.

Sadyr Zhaparov also addressed the UN Security Council meeting on "Artificial Intelligence: International Security and Peace."

At the end of his address, President Sadyr Zhaparov announced that Kyrgyzstan is nominating its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027–2028.

Following his working visit to the United States, President Sadyr Zhaparov returned to Bishkek on September 25.
