PRESIDENT ATTENDS 62nd COOPERATIVE DAY IN SAMARINDA
Samarinda, Indonesia, July 15 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono attended the peak event of the 62nd Cooperative Day at the Sempaja sports stadium in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday.
Accompanied by First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, the president arrived at Lamin Etam Guest House here at 2 on Wednesday afternoon after taking an overland trip for about two hours from Sepinggan airport in Balikpapan.
Besides the fist lady, President Yudhoyono was also accompanied by State Enterprises Minister Sofyan Djalil, Public Works Minister Djoko Kirmanto, Energy and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, Communication and Information Minister Muhammad Nuh, Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Minister Surayadharma Ali, and presidential spokesmen Andi Malarangeng and Dino Patti Djalal.
The president was also scheduled to dedicate the Mahakam Ulu bridge and the 2x20 MV Samberah gas power plant (PLTG) on Wednesday afternoon.
The head of state and his entourage on Wednesday evening will attend a banquet hosted by East Kalimantan Governor Awang Faroek at Lamin Etam Guest House.
The theme of the Cooperative Day commemoration this time which fell on July 12 is "Stabilizing the Role of the Cooperative Movement in Global Dynamics."
State Minister for Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Suryadharma Ali expressed hope that the theme would be a momentum for a joint determination in facing the global economy.
The 62nd Cooperatives Day organizing committee chairman Soeryo Bawono who is chairman of the Indonesian Cooperatives Council (Dekopin)' Institutional and Organizational Board, said early this month that President Yudhoyono's visit to Samarinda would mark the implementation of the cooperatives' five programs which had been pioneered for the past five years.
He said that since 2005, five cooperative programs have been pioneered. The programs are organic agriculture, information technology and on-line cooperative system, people's housing, bio-energy, and e-commerce.
"The five cooperatives' programs were implemented this year and e dedicated by President Yudhoyono on July 12, 2009," Soeryo Bawono said.
He said he had been pioneering the system in the past five years, especially in the arrangement of on-line cooperative network across the country. ***
