MEGAWATI CONCERNED ABOUT FATE OF RI`S STATE IDEOLOGY
Jakarta, July 15 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Democratic Party- Struggle (PDIP) chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri has expressed concern over the fate of Indonesia's state ideology of Pancasila and 1945 Constitution.
At a function to open a PDIP national working meeting here on Wednesday, Megawati said if the state ideology of Pancasila and 1945 Constitution were questioned again, it would create complicated problems for the nation in the future.
"If the state ideology is questioned, I will really feel gravely concerned about the future of Indonesia, because it means we will again be facing a protracted struggle," Megawati said.
Megawati admitted that a few days ago she got a text message (SMS) from an unknown sender, saying, "For a presidential candidate to win a presidential election, he or she does not need to think any more about matters related to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), the state ideology of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution."
She said for the PDIP and Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra), the NKRI's ideology of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution were the bottom-line of Indonesia's state and nationhood or the country's absolute founding principles about which there could be no bargaining.
"Many parties congratulated me not because of the presidential election but because of PDIP struggle and consistency in upholding the state ideology," Megawati said.
On the occasion, Megawati also questioned the quality of last Wednesday's presidential election.
"The presidential election has taken place but there is a big question whether or not it was really organized democratically," Megawati said.
Megawati, said she raised the question because she had received many reports and complaints from the party's grass-roots about election-rule violations during the presidential poll.
She said although the official results of the election were yet to be announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU), PDIP's vote returns in this year's presidential election were better than those in 2004.
Like Megawati, Prabowo Subianto also claimed to have received many reports from the legal team of the Greater Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party on various violations during the election.***
