N SULAWESI, INDONESIA, NEEDS RP400 BILLION TO BUILD POWER PLANT
Manado, Jul 15 (ANTARA)- The North Sulawesi Provincial Administration needed Rp400 billion to build a sea water power plant (PLTAL) to be obtained as a Japanese government grant.
"We need Rp400 billion to build the PLTAL, which will be obtained in the form of a Japanese government grant, which is expected by Bali, Padang and North Sulawesi," Head of the Natural Resources Division Adry Manengkey told the press in Manado.
The Japanese grant is worth fighting for to fund the development of power supply in North Sulawesi, Manengkey said, adding that the project is based on a program of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) which is also friendly to the environment.
These days, the demonstration projects from the OTEC had been built in Japan, India, and Hawaii.
One of the benefits of OTEC, Manengkey added, is that it could improve the economy of the people living in the coastal areas.Because it not only produces electricity, but could also produce plain water from sea water for distribution to the coastal population.
The benefits of OTEC had already been socialized recently by the central government, in this case by instructor Prof Yasuyuki Ikegami from the Ocean Energy Saga University, in Japan, and by Dr Dony Achiruddin from Dharma Persada Universitas Indonesia.
The building of the power plant had already been discussed with North Sulawesi Governor Drs Sinyo H Sarundajang, who said that the matter will be further discussed with academicians and experts, Manengkey said.
