THREE INDONESIANS JAILED FIVE MONTHS FOR TRAFFICKING IN 16 FOREIGNERS

KLANG (Malaysia), July 16 (Bernama) -- Three Indonesians were jailed five months each by the Magistrate's Court here Wednesday for trafficking in 16 foreigners including Pakistani and Afghan nationals for profit in the Lumut Straits last month.

Dubir Sukarji, 41, Sawal Lajiman, 35, and Surianto Sulaiman, 33, all from
east Jawa, pleaded guilty to committing the offence in an unnumbered boat in the
strait between 11pm and 11.20pm on June 27.

Magistrate Gan Chee Keong ordered their jail terms to run from the date of
their arrest on June 27.

The offence under section 23 (2)(6) of the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act
2007 carries a maximum RM25,000 fine or five years jail, or both, on conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Azilah Mat appeared for the prosecution while
the three were unrepresented.
