Thailand, Cambodia Expected to Sign Joint Declaration on Path to Peace at ASEAN Summit

BANGKOK, Oct 24 (TNA) -Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow expressed confidence that Thailand and Cambodia will sign a Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia on the outcomes of their meetings leading to peace at the upcoming ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which runs from October 26-28.

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow arrived in Kuala Lumpur to prepare for the 47th ASEAN Summit Ministerial and Leaders' meetings, where Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is also due to attend.

Mr. Sihasak is slated to attend a key four-party consultation with Cambodia, the U.S., and Malaysia to finalize the document.

The Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia on the outcomes of their meetings leading to peace is expected to be signed by both Prime Ministers as early as October 25, following the successful conclusion of a General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on October 22.

The agreement includes concrete plans for the withdrawal of heavy weapons, demining the border, cooperating to suppress transnational crime (including online scammers), and managing Cambodian nationals in disputed areas.

The signing is anticipated to be witnessed by leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Furthermore, the declaration will include a detailed action plan with specific timelines for its implementation, while specific land encroachment issues in areas like Ban Nong Ya Kaeo and Ban Nong Chan will be addressed separately by the Joint Boundary Committee (JBC). -819 (TNA)
