Thai FM: Says Joint Declaration with Cambodia on Peace Path Ready for Signing

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (TNA) - Thailand and Cambodia are set to sign a joint declaration aimed at building peace between the two neighbours during the upcoming ASEAN Summit, with the United States and Malaysia expected to serve as witnesses, Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said Friday.
Sihasak told reporters the document, officially titled the Joint Declaration between Thailand and Cambodia on the outcomes of their meetings leading to peace, is ready for signature on Oct. 26.
"We are not signing a peace agreement, but a document that outlines a path to resolving the problems and moving towards peace," Sihasak said, emphasizing the need for concrete steps to follow the signing by the prime ministers of both nations.
"After the prime ministers sign the cooperation document, we must see practical guidelines... at least to confirm we are moving in the right direction, working to solve key issues, and building mutual trust," he added, noting that Thailand and Cambodia must coexist as neighbours. -819 (TNA)
