Thai PM Has Private Conversation with Trump After APEC Dinner

GYEONGJU, South Korea, Oct 30 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul held a private conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump following the APEC Economic Leaders' Dinner.

The discussion centered on a pledge of support for trade and the implementation of the recent Thailand-Cambodia border agreement.

Anutin said the informal exchange had a good outlook for Thai-U.S. relations. He asked President Trump to support better terms for Thailand regarding pending U.S. import tariff reductions, stating it would reflect the strong, long-standing friendship between the nations. Trump promised to instruct the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to initiate discussions aimed at maximizing benefits for Thailand.

The Prime Minister also thanked Trump for his coordination in the signing of the Joint Declaration with Cambodia, assuring him that both countries are committed to swiftly implementing the terms, which include measures for de-escalation and border stability.

The Prime Minister said that the APEC meeting will provide an opportunity for bilateral discussions with the leaders of Canada, China and South Korea. He also mentioned the business sector, specifically SK Bioscience, with which the Thai Ministry of Public Health, through the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO), is planning a joint venture memorandum of agreement for the production of essential vaccines in Thailand. -819 (TNA)
