PM Sponsors the Signing Ceremony of the Executive Mechanism for the Water Cooperation Agreement Between Iraq and Turkey

Baghdad / NINA / –Prime Minister,  Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Sunday sponsored the signing ceremony of the executive mechanism for the framework cooperation agreement between Iraq and Turkey in the field of water resources, signed by Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan.

Al-Sudani affirmed, according to a statement of his media office that the agreement represents one of the sustainable solutions to address Iraq’s water crisis through the implementation of major joint strategic projects in the water sector aimed at managing resources and mitigating the effects of scarcity and drought.

He stressed the importance of following up on the outcomes agreed upon during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Baghdad last year, noting that the water crisis has become a global challenge and that Iraq is among the countries most affected by it.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the new financing mechanism will further strengthen bilateral relations between Baghdad and Ankara and open broader prospects for cooperation across various sectors, serving the shared interests of both friendly nations.

For his part, the Turkish Foreign Minister conveyed President Erdoğan’s greetings to Al-Sudani and praised the Iraqi government’s efforts in enhancing bilateral relations, which have resulted in the signing of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding across multiple sectors./End
