Thailand Rushes to Clear Border Mines Before Boundary Marking
SA KAEO, Nov 3 (TNA) - Thai demining teams are racing to clear landmines along the Cambodian border in Sa Kaeo province, specifically around Ban Nong Chan and Ban Nong Ya Kaew, ahead of a planned temporary boundary demarcation on November 17. The operation, jointly conducted by Humanitarian Demining Unit 1 and the Army's engineering unit have deployed specialized vehicles near Border Marker 47 in Kok Sung district to secure the area.
However, the activities of the Thai teams are being closely monitored from the Cambodian side.
Despite a joint agreement between the two nations to cooperate on clearing landmines, no Cambodian personnel have been observed participating in the operation as of yet.
At Ban Nong Ya Kaew, Cambodian soldiers and villagers have been seen observing the work and tracking the movements of Thai personnel with binoculars.
The clearance effort remains substantial, with Thai forces having secured approximately 10,000 square meters of the land so far, leaving over 190,000 square meters still to be cleared before the November deadline for the temporary marking of the border line.
