Minister: Iranian girls won 868 medals in int’l sports events last year

Tehran, IRNA – Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali says that Iranian girls won 868 medals in international sports events during the last Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20.

The minister made the remarks on Tuesday at an open session of Parliament, briefing lawmakers on achievements in Iran’s sports sector. The session was aimed at assessing the progress of the Fifth National Seven-Year Development Plan.

“Over the past year, we dispatched more than 307 delegations of women and girls to prestigious international events, and our daughters won 868 medals, of which 340 were gold. This demonstrates the determination and pride of Iranian women in achieving excellence,” he said.

Donyamali also stated that Iran has secured 1,160 international seats and sent nearly 1,900 referees to international events.

According to the minister, the Ministry of Sports and Youth plans to achieve further success for the country by making full use of existing resources and continued hard work.
