Jakarta, July 17 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited victims of bomb explosions at Metropolitan Medical Center (MMC) here on Friday.
The head of state stayed for around 30 minutes at the hospital and met with victims being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU), on the hospital's second floor.
Yudhoyono asked the doctors to give their best services to the victims and prayed for the recovery of the people injured in the blasts.
He was accompanied by among others Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Widodo AS, Minister/State Secretary Hatta Radjasa, Communication and Informatics Minister M Nuh, National Police Chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri, Chief of the State Intelligent Agency (BIN) Syamsir Siregar, and Chief of the Indonesian Defense Forces Djoko Santoso.
The MMC hospital is treating 36 victims, consisting of 21 Indonesians and 15 foreigners.
Several other victims were rushed to the Jakarta Hospital, the Pertamina Hospital, and the Medistra Hospital.
Nine people were killed and 52 others injured in the twin bombings on the Ritz Carlton and JW Marriott hotels in the upscale Mega Kuningan district of Jakarta.President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) said he had been a target of a terrorist group since the legislative elections in April 2009.
Speaking at a press conference earlier following bomb explosions at the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels, the president strongly condemned the explosions which killed nine people. He said the blasts were an act of terrorism.
"The act of terrorism was believed to have been carried out by a terrorist group, although it might not be a network that we already know about," he said.
The head of state was confident that the security agencies would be able to capture and punish the bombers.
Yudhoyono pledged that as the head of government he would instruct law enforcers to take stern actions and order all police, military and intelligence personnel and regional chiefs to step up alertness. ***
